Russell issues a startling judgment regarding Hamilton’s Ferrari maneuver.

Lewis Hamilton is about to compete in his final race while wearing the Mercedes livery before moving to Ferrari the following year.

George Russell feels that if the Mercedes team had continued its current run of success, Lewis Hamilton would not have chosen to quit the team.

Hamilton said before the season began that he will leave Mercedes at the end of the current campaign and sign a multi-year contract to join Ferrari.

After Mercedes struggled for two seasons and fell back in the rankings after dominating for a while, the choice was made.

Nevertheless, the Brackley-based team has improved recently, which made it possible for Hamilton to win again at the British Grand Prix earlier this month.

Russell said Hamilton would have acted differently if Mercedes had been operating at its present level prior to the start of the season, as Mercedes had momentum on its side.

Had the team been playing this well, I doubt he would have quit.Without a doubt, he would not have left, Russell told Reuters.

We have a lot of excitement for the upcoming years because everything we’re doing with the fuels is looking fantastic and the PU (power unit) for 2026 is looking pretty robust. “

As tough as these last few years have been, it really feels like we’ve got the momentum with us now.”
