Keegan Bradley recorded a 4-3 record during his two appearances at the Ryder Cup in both 2012 and 2014, according to Reuters.
The PGA of America announced on Monday that Keegan Bradley (38) will be serving as the US captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup to be held at Bethpage Black in New York. During their search process, they also spoke with Tiger Woods (48) regarding the position.
Following criticism directed towards Zach Johnson after his team lost to Europe in the previous biennial event, Bradley has replaced him as US captain and is a two-time major champion.
In a news release, John Lindert, President of the PGA of America stated that they firmly believe Keegan’s leadership will instill in the 2025 US Ryder Cup Team at Bethpage the unwavering confidence and determination he has exhibited throughout his career.
Despite his victory at the 2002 US Open held at Bethpage Black, Woods initially appeared to be the clear favorite for the captaincy position.
However, due to other commitments outside of golfing and expressing uncertainty about being able to allocate sufficient time towards fulfilling this role’s obligations, he withdrew from consideration.
Bradley, who has won six times on the PGA Tour including the 2011 PGA Championship, was appointed as captain. This comes after he did not make it onto the US Ryder Cup team in 2023 despite having two victories and six top-10 finishes on tour that year.
Bradley’s record of 4 wins and 3 losses accumulated in his two appearances at the Ryder Cup, first in 2012 then again in 2014.
Bradley declared that his admiration and fervor for the most exceptional group occasion in golf had intensified.Preparing for the 2025 event, I anticipate an exceptional edition of The Ryder Cup as it distinguishes itself from any other competition in our sport. As Woods conferred about the captaincy with the PGA of America, he remained occupied not only with a restricted playing schedule but also a multitude of commercial ventures and serving as an intermediary in peace talks between LIV Golf’s Saudi sponsors and the PGA Tour.
In May prior to the PGA Championship, Woods was questioned regarding the role of captain.
In response, he mentioned that discussions were still ongoing about how this position would be executed and if he could manage it given his schedule.
“In May, Woods stated that he’s devoting a significant amount of time to our PGA Tour endeavors and thus wants to fulfill his captaincy role in the best way possible.””I must ensure that I can dedicate the appropriate amount of time required for fulfilling my responsibilities, which include representing Team USA, meeting commitments to PGA of America, players and fans as well as all members associated with Team USA.
“Having played in eight Ryder Cup tournaments from 1997 to 2018, with a record of 13-21-3, the fifteen-time major champion was an obvious choice as captain.In addition to being a triumphant player-captain at the 2019 Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Woods has also acted as an assistant captain for both that competition and the Ryder Cup.
